Bar Hernandez sits on a quiet corner of Potts Point, in a space that has been woven into the fabric of the neighbourhood since 1972. For fifty years it traded as Café Hernandez — a family-run institution that became something of a Sydney institution, known for its strong coffee, long hours, and a loyal following that spanned generations. In 2022, after half a century of continuous operation, the Hernandez family sold the building, marking the end of an era and the beginning of a new one.
Dave & Amy Spanton bought the site that same year and reimagined it as Bar Hernandez — a European-influenced bar that pays deliberate respect to what came before. A carefully considered list of Spanish wines, vermuts, and spirits; tinned seafood and small plates plus live music and warm friendly service is what you will find when we welcome you to Bar Hernandez.
